I'll take you on my journey of a 7 day sugar-free diet.

I decided I wanted to try a sugar-free diet to see how my body feels without sugar. When I saw sugar free I mean added sugar. I don't think I am addicted but I know I have over the recommended daily amount which is about 25-30 grams for women. I always wanted to meal plan but I found it hard to find my own recipes and make a plan myself. I researched some sugar free diets on the internet and found many. I ended up deciding to chose to follow BuzzFeed's since they included everything I needed. Some meals I chose to not eat. My beverage choice with my meals was mostly water, mmm refreshing. You can add a squeeze of lemon in your water too. I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes to this was a fun experience for me. Each day I write what I ate and how the day went along with some feedback. Let's dive into my seven day journey of a sugar free diet.
Day #1 - Monday
Monday morning I was feeling tired. I didn't get as much sleep as I wanted which usually happens on Sunday night. I normally do not eat breakfast M-F since I work. I made my morning coffee with coconut milk and pure vanilla extract that I made Sunday. It didn't satisfy my taste buds so I splashed some half and half in it. For lunch I had cilantro-lime meatballs. I tried the peanut sauce but decided to opt out on it because it didn't turn out how I wanted. I also did not have sliced jalapeño. I had already planned Monday's dinner a week in advance. I wanted to take my dad out for his birthday. We went to a hibachi grill. Before leaving o go out to dinner, I looked up the nutrition facts on their menu to make sure what was safe for me to eat. I had miso soup, fried rice, veggies, and filet mignon and shrimp. I love having this every time I go to a hibachi grill, oh, and the yum yum sauce, but that has sugar in it, so I had to pass on it this time.
Day one down, six to go.
Day #2 - Tuesday
During the night it snowed. I checked the road conditions and they looked pretty bad. I called work and took PTO, cause why not. The last day I took off was a few months ago. My partner is laid off for the season so that meant more time to spend with him as well. To start out my day I decided to make PB toast on sourdough bread and a banana. I also had coffee with coconut milk. Before lunch, my partner and I ran some errands. I found out the roads were only wet and not bad to drive on. We were hungry after running errands so we decided to stop and get McDonald's. I had to quickly look up the nutrition facts. Chicken nuggets and fries were basically my only two options that I liked, not nutritious but I couldn't remember the last time I got McDonald's chicken nuggets. Dinner was delicious, I had the sweet potato veggie tacos with lime creme.
Day #3 - Wednesday
With eating out the first two days, I was not on track with the meal plan. I told myself that it's okay to try whatever I wanted. I did not eat breakfast and had my morning coffee with coconut milk. I had left over tacos from last night's dinner. For dinner it was easy to cook and assemble the spiced turkey meatballs tossed with greens, carrots, and a creamy sauce.
Day #4 - Thursday
It is the fourth day which means it's half way through. I used all my coconut milk creamer I had made from Sunday. I replaced it with half and half. No breakfast as usual. I was excited to try my homemade tzatziki for lunch. I had the roasted veggie pita with tzatziki. I was right, this was delicious. I wasn't in the mood to cook dinner, so I heated up meatballs and threw them over rice with some veggies. Having meal-prepped the meatballs on Sunday helped me make this super quick dinner for a busy day.
Day #5 - Friday
Whew, it's Friday! The last work day before the weekend. Another day of no breakfast and my coffee with half and half. Lunch was a power salad with roasted chickpeas and sweet potatoes. I used oil + vinegar dressing in lieu of balsamic since I didn't have any and didn't bother to buy some. I thought this meal was not appetizing at all. I only ate about half. Around dinner time, I started to play The Sims 4 and snacked on some Cheez-Its. I didn't make dinner but had a turkey, provolone, and mayo sandwich on sourdough later on that night.
Day #5 - Saturday
I got up early to spend time with my mom. I did not eat breakfast but I did make my coffee with half and half. We went to a fall craft show. We usually try to go every year together. For lunch I had a hotdog with no bun and a bag of Lays. It definitely did not taste as good as the other meals I had earlier this week. I didn't write down what I had for dinner Saturday. Sitting here as I write this whole post, I don't think I had dinner. I did go to a restaurant later that night. I looked on their menu and I could really only order fries. They were salty but good.
Day #7 - Sunday
Wow, seven days went by fast. For breakfast I made a quinoa bowl with sliced strawberries, PB, and a sliced banana topped with peanuts. My partner's daughter and I did a Target run and I wanted to treat myself with a chai tea from Starbucks. Chai tea is my favorite drink, especially if it has vanilla in it. Lunch was more like a snack of pretzels and seasoned sour cream dip. For my last dinner I wanted it to be special. My partner and his kids were having chicken Alfredo with broccoli so I decided to have whole wheat pasta with lemon kale chicken. This was my favorite of all of the recipes I tried.
Would I try a sugar free diet again? My body did not feel heavy and overall it was a great decision, so yes, I would definitely do a sugar free diet again or cut back on added sugars. I had fun trying new recipes and even gained some new meal ideas.
